Annual Memorial Jazz Jam Session

Amy Chapin, Paul Nielsen, and Tony Bussone perform "It Might as Well Be Spring" at the 2009 Drew Chapin Memorial Trio Concert at the Central Park Pavilion, Grayslake, IL

The 2nd annual concert on Aug. 12th, 2010 was a success, drawing more than 100 people for a night of jazz in Central Park, Grayslake and raising more than $2,000 for the Drew Chapin Scholarship Fund. It's not too late to donate.

This free concert honored Drew Chapin, who passed away in 2005, and who loved music, parks, peace, and improvisation.

Tony Bussone--percussion, Paul Nielsen--upright bass, and Bill Chapin--keyboard, provided the trio foundation for a jazz jam session. Amy Chapin also sang on a few tunes, and alumni of the Grayslake Jazz Combo Workshop (GJCW) and jazzers from the community joined in the improvisation. At one point, more than 15 area professionals joined alumi and students from both of the 2010 GJCW combos on stage.
